Early Learning
WELCOME TO SCOTCH COLLEGE
All children are unique, lifelong learners.
Situated within the beautiful natural setting of the grounds of Scotch College Junior School on the Mitcham Campus, our Early Learning Centre offers children meaningful opportunities to be creative and curious, to discover and to create theories to help them make sense of their world.
We are inspired by the principles of the Reggio Emilia Philosophy, and we believe that children learn best through play, discovery and authentic experiences. Children are supported to explore, manipulate, discover, experiment and express themselves in many varied ways.
Please enjoy the publications below, which will help you get to know Scotch College and our Early Learning Centre.
You can also find up to date information about Scotch’s fees here, and the latest editions of Scotch Reports, our periodical school magazine here.
Welcome to Early Learning at Scotch
Children may start at our Early Learning Centre from the age of 3 years. They will be able to explore the world guided by a Reggio Emilia inspired approach with personalised learning programs for every child. Based on each child’s interests, these programs will help enhance the learning outcomes for each child and ensure that every child enjoys a curriculum that is inclusive and encourages their participation.
Once children turn 4 years of age, they will continue their journey to school-readiness, enjoying the group dynamics and shared learning of Specialist lessons in French, Music, Art, Dance and Library visits.

A Focus on Wellbeing
Wellbeing is at the base of everything we do, as is building positive community relationships and providing learning opportunities that are personalised and meaningful.
Our focus is on each child, which includes providing a developmentally appropriate learning environment that fosters a positive sense of self, and ensures all children feel they belong and are connected, safe, happy, challenged, and respected.
Children are taught to respect each other and to value their interactions with others through play and discovery.
We recognise and value families’ individual cultures, identities, abilities and strengths.
Immunisation Requirements
Following changes to the South Australian Public Health Act 2011 (the Act), from 7 August 2020, children will not be able to enrol in or attend early childhood services unless all immunisation requirements are met.
Approved immunisation records must be supplied by parents/guardians to the early childhood service at specified times and early childhood services must keep a current copy of an approved immunisation record for each child enrolled in, or attending that service.
Please refer to the information provided by SA Health regarding immunisation requirements at the Scotch ELC.
